Prepared Dawgs Ambassador Program

Mission Statement

The mission of the UGA OEP Ambassador Program is to promote a healthy, safe, and prepared campus community through student-to-student coordination and outreach.

Program Description

OEP Ambassadors will act as the spokespeople for the Office of Emergency Preparedness to their organizations, respective colleges, and UGA in general.

The intention of the OEP Student Ambassador Program is not to monopolize the time of students involved, rather, it is formatted to educate the selected students so that they may relay provided information to their organizations. Through this strategy, it is OEP’s hope that the majority of UGA students will have a thorough understanding of emergency procedures and feel prepared for any emergency situation.

Students selected for this program should consider it an honor and a responsibility, as they will be communicating information that could potentially save lives. Ambassadors will meet monthly to discuss emergency procedures and protocol while also taking an in-depth look at recent events regarding emergency safety. Through analyzing the events that take place on other campuses or communities, the OEP Ambassadors will be able to better prepare themselves and their organizations for situations through the application of real-world examples.

OEP Student Ambassadors will fulfill a crucial role on UGA’s campus. These students will provide the essential connection between the student body and the professionals working at the Office of Emergency Preparedness. This program is one of the many steps that UGA is taking in order to better prepare our campus for emergencies, and selected OEP Ambassadors should feel proud of their involvement in such an important cause.

Role of an OEP Ambassador

OEP Ambassadors will promote, organize, and participate in campus emergency preparedness activities and act as student liaisons for the Office of Emergency Preparedness.

Ambassador Responsibilities

Attend Orientation

Selected ambassadors will attend a program orientation. The goal of the orientation is to provide ambassadors with a preliminary comprehensive overview of emergency management and response. At orientation, all ambassadors will be encouraged to get to know each other and to start to think as a team.

Attend Monthly Meetings

Ambassadors will be expected to attend monthly meetings hosted by the OEP staff. These meetings will cover current events and emergency procedures for a chosen topic such as fire safety, medical emergencies, severe weather, etc. and will specifically apply such procedures to the UGA community.

Promote Campus Preparedness and Safety

Ambassadors are expected to communicate and apply the information learned at the monthly meetings to their respective colleges and organizations. Ambassadors are responsible for hosting a minimum of one emergency preparedness outreach activity per semester.

Obtain Necessary Training and Certification

Ambassadors will only be successful if they are knowledgeable; therefore, Ambassadors may be asked to complete specific emergency response training programs. Training requirements are at the discretion of the OEP Advisor. Examples of trainings include First Aid / CPR, Active Shooter Readiness, and FEMA Independent Study Courses.

Organize and Participate in Campus-Wide Outreach Activities
